SWEET DIXIE! Her name sums it up, I suppose - unique, spunky and Southern. I have known Dixie since she was 5 years old. Her brother has been best friends with my oldest son since pre-school and she has hung out with the guys and been the "big sister" to them all these years. I've watched her grow from toddler to little girl to tween to beautiful young lady. Socially, Dixie has had ups and downs and I've been lucky enough to have her come to me for advice throughout the years. Dixie has called me "Aunt Laura", "Mom" and other names I’m sure I don't want to know about, but through it all she has been "family".
I have never known of a young lady that is more loyal, protective or loving than Dixie. If you are a friend of hers, you are her friend for life and she would do just about anything for you. (I'm fairly confident that is a family trait!) She's fun to be around because she is almost always in a good mood and giggling. Vocally, she is gifted and I've been the fortunate one to have a front row seat over the years to watch her talent blossom. It’s mind boggling that Dixie isn't afraid of anything! She will jump on stage in front of a crowd of people - even with the most famous of musicians and sing, as well as stand in line for hours to audition.
Just this week when she was going back to audition for 'The Voice', we discussed that it didn't matter if she made it onto the show or even to the next round. What mattered was that she had the courage to put herself out there. If I know Dixie, she will keep going back because she doesn't give up on her dreams. Her Senior Session was all about where she envisioned herself a couple years from now. I thought this was really special because typically Seniors want their session to be reminiscent of their childhood or Senior year. but Dixie was adamant that her session reflect where she is headed in life!
Dixie, you know how much I love you, but you probably don't know how proud I am to have you as an Ambassador this year! You have brought so much to the program with your uplifting personality and constant giggles. We wouldn't have been the same without you. I’m blessed to have watch you grow up in 'Dixieland'!
